Estelita’s Library

developing tiny cultural spaces on city-owned property

I worked with the City of Seattle’s property disposition group to identify lower-priority city-owned properties that could be sites for the development of “Tiny Cultural Spaces.” We identified multiple properties and identified funding to support the creation of a custom-designed cultural spaces for community-based organizations.

I managed the project from conception, first creating interdepartmental collaborations within the City of Seattle, and then managing the project through the identification of partner organizations, through design, permitting, and construction.

Estelita’s Library was the first of these Tiny Cultural Space projects. Estelita’s is a community-empowerment library and bookstore, and the repository of the world’s largest collection of Black Panther newspapers.

The project was featured in Dwell Magazine and has hosted hundreds of community events since opening in 2022.
