Storefronts Seattle

pop-up cultural space incubator program

In 2011 I was tapped to direct the nascent Storefronts Seattle program. Over the course of the next two years I managed a small staff and together we built the largest and longest-lived pop-up cultural space program in the United States.

The program expanded from its roots in Pioneer Square and the Chinatown / International District of Seattle to include neighborhoods in Bellevue, Mount Vernon, and Auburn, Washington. At its peak we we programming 37 different spaces in four cities throughout Western Washington. We supported hundreds of artists and arts organizations.

The program also launched no fewer than seven full-time arts businesses into permanent spaces throughout Seattle. The Beacon dance studio, the Seattle Pinball Museum, and the CTRL-P print studio were just three of the businesses that we helped write custom long-term leases with supportive local property owners.

The program continues to thrive and has since launched a sibling program, Seattle ReStored, running alongside it.
